But just before the Dawn

Post 72

It starts. Across the street. In a house. Not my house. Maybe my house. Uninvited. And knock. You know I'm there. You bring people. And smile. You know I'm there. You talk. Words. But no sounds. Then sounds. But no lips moving. And the words form and become jumbled. You sit. we all sit. in a glass sun room. and it's a happy day. outside. you smile. and know that I'll come round. because that's what you do. Words. more words. flying. and emotion. flying. spiralling. no, winding. winding up. great tensions building into a tight coil. ready to spring out. the backlash. the strangling. no voice. no voice. no help. no eyes. no eyes. and i can't see. Both of you stand Across the Road. across the road and stare. you both stare. and i stare. and you both see. and i see. This is my house. I can see the window. I can see the trees. They stand taller than I can see. I can see wolves. No people. No, people. And shadows. I see their silhouettes. And the shapes they make are trees. The doors are locked. The doors are holding. They can't come inside. They will eat the house. They'll eat it all up. They are wolves. And they are circling. The holes near the trees are from stumps. Dug out. Like pits. Shallow and warm. With small sticks. Like legs. They go away. The wolves go. And I stay. there is a kitchen. and the light is warm. the room is dark. but i know the room. and the light is warm. the windows are dark. the curtains slightly drawn. the outside is black. and the moon is shining. but there is something missing. and then the rain starts. the rain. it pours. and creates puddles. creates pools. creates creeks. creates dams. it's going to flood, it's going to flood. so i head up to the gate. out the gate. and go across the street. to the wall. to the little fountain. to the water feature. the stone wall. the tiny stone wall. and ferns. and stones. the stones need to be put back. or the neighbours will notice. but there are no houses. and no house across the street. and no garden. just the wall. and i have to put the stones back or it will flood. even with no rain. Taking the car now. Taking the car. Up to the trees. To investigate. To seek. Something is missing. Went missing. And the car is needed. To the shed. Around the shed. Behind the shed. And I can't see where the shed is. Can't see where the missing thing is. Trees only. Trees staying. It's the black that isn't hiding. Trees and the black. it's like a field. of grass. long. buffalo grass. that has dry bits. little tufts. and holes. tunnels. for rabbits. and a garden. of woodchips. and flowers. that rabbits collect and replace. in other spots. neurotic rabbits. fussy rabbits. taking the plants. through the tunnels. and rearranging the garden. and hiding. in the grass. Pink. pink. orange? pink. bright. light. sunny? pink. swings. playset. play. play time. eruption. surprise. sudden. pressure. panic. heart beat. thump. disturbance. thump. swaying. swaying. swaying. motion. back. and forth. propulsion. distance. travel. reverse. forward. robot. robot. robot. spirit. level. motioned. back. and forth. thump. thump. thump. stop. silence. There's a tank. or vat. maybe a vat. and it's round. i think it's round. and there is liquid in it. bubbling? steaming? vapor? and it's moving. and the head comes up. just the head. with closed eyes. and an expression that will never change. for it is only a head. just the head. and i have to wake up.

When you close your eyes. Did the world change? And when you opened them. Did it stay the same?
